frolickingfreckles a réagi à votre photo : in case you were desperately wondering what i do…
wow, that sounds like a pretty boring thing to do! Have you studied anything related to maps making?
Right. So in school I study ~human geography~ which is in the faculty of Arts, meaning that rather than making maps, rotating pins, and calculating distance/speed ratios (all things I do at my...

Me: Oui. Chaque jour, toujours.

Meanwhile back at home...
Sister: Did you hear? Dad got rid of the swing set and is making "Birdland" at the back of our backyard.
Me: i heard. i was mortified. birds are dirty. what's it like?
Sister: He dug up a zigzag, but hasn't done anything with it yet so there's just a big pile of dirt by the pine tree. I think he's going to make o fence out of the swingset lumber, so don't worry, there'll be a barrier between the regular yard and the dirty bird yard. Funnily enough though, I saw a bird enjoying Birdland earlier this week. It was just sitting on the pile of dirt. It seemed to be having a grand old time.
This combined with their conversion of my bedroom to place to dry laundry and store old mattresses (not even kidding) makes me with I didn't have to move back home at the end of August.

I really liked this part too:

Off Avec Pas D’casque’s Polaris Music Prize long listed albumAstronomie, “Intuition # 1”is a slow build with each turn taking on new layers, adding up to a sonic depth that transcends the traditional boundaries of most folk influenced offerings to find incorporeal footing in the ether of experimental sounds.
[“Intuition #1” was added to rotation this week on CBC Radio 3]

– Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughterhouse-Five
I powered through this one in a matter of days and I loved it. It kind of reminded me of a straightforward Murakami novel, if that is possible. So it is fucked up, but generally you know what is going on and even though you don’t exactly know why things are...

J'ai survécu!
I decided to take a pleasant hike up Mont Royal today.
I tried taking a different route home and then I got lost and ended up in Outremont before realizing things weren’t going according to plan. A hike that should have taken 2h or less took 4. Boo :(
Someone defaced the lions by the parc jeanne-mance statue by spray painting them gold. i kind of like it. they (or someone else) also...

A good evening alone.
Sunny balcony + beer + Douglas Coupland (one of very few critically acclaimed authors best enjoyed with a bit of a buzz on in my opinion) = a good evening at home alone.

DIYP cooking cooking #9: Popcorn
I don’t have a popcorn maker here in Montreal, but I still bought popcorn at the “anti-capitalist” food co-op on as an impulse buy. Ho hum.
So I thought I’d try to diyp popcorn in a pot. It went… well?
So you heat up your pot on high heat and put in a small amount of cooking oil. Let me tell you, there’s a reason that you should mostly just use the high...

Vocab Vocab Straight Up Vocab
Pince-sans-rire is the French word for deadpan.
One of my coworkers taught me this word, and then they were all curious what the English equivalent is… good times.
Supervisor: Dead pen? c’est quoi un dead pen?
Me: Dead PAN… comme poêle. Mais c’est seulement un mot. Ce veut dire pince-sans-rire.
Supervisor: Dead pan? Pourquoi dead pan?
Coworker: Une poêle morte?
Me:...

Every so often, I remember this incredibly apt post from Hyperbole and a Half. This post describes the deeply exhausting, soul-sucking, delirium-inducing cycle of endless irresponsibility and borderline competency that I’ve been trapped in for, oh, the past 5 years or so.

An Ode to Goat Cheese
Oh, rich chèvre,
How I love you.
Turtle says that you taste like armpit,
But even if that were true
(and it’s not),
You, dear chèvre,
Would taste like the armpits of an attractive person after a long shower.
Delicious chèvre,
May your creamy goodness grace my palate forever.

I called home for the first time in rather too...
I talked to my dad for father’s day and all that.
They’ve converted my bedroom into a storage space since they bought a new mattress and needed a place for the old one until they can get rid of it. Thanks, guys.
And today my dad took down our childhood swing set finally. That wouldn’t be so bad, except he’s going to build a “bird sanctuary” in its place. This...

French Word of the Day!
Bousiller - to botch/wreck
French rappers use this word a lot but I didn’t know what it meant until I found it in a book and asked one of my francophone friends. Good word to know.
Not to be confused with bousier, which is a dung beetle.
